Microsoft has recently announced a price increase for Xbox consoles, controllers, and eventually games. The new recommended retail prices for hardware are effective immediately, while the $79.99 price tag for new first-party games will be introduced this upcoming holiday season. If you've been considering purchasing an Xbox Series X|S or a new controller, now is the perfect time to act before the prices go up. The updated, higher prices are already reflected on Xbox’s official store, but you might still find the current prices at certain retailers – at least for the time being.

The Xbox Series X is the flagship Xbox console, boasting enough power to run games at 4K resolution. It's a powerhouse, and I personally prefer it over my PS5. I also appreciate the ability to buy and play physical games, which is why I've highlighted the standard model above. However, if you're comfortable with a fully digital gaming library, opting for the digital edition can save you $50.
Xbox Series S
Xbox Series S - 512GB
Xbox Series S 512GB - $299 (Going Up to $379 Soon)

Xbox Series S 1TB - $349 (Going Up to $429 Soon)

If you're ready to fully embrace an all-digital gaming future, the Xbox Series S could be the console for you. However, it's worth noting that it has less raw power compared to the Series X, designed to run games at 1440p resolution rather than 4K. If that suits your needs, this is an excellent choice. It's available in 512GB or 1TB models. Personally, I recommend the 1TB model due to the large file sizes of modern games and the high cost of Xbox storage expansions.

Some Xbox controllers are also seeing a price increase. The range of Xbox controllers varies, and not all of them are subject to the same price adjustments. In fact, some remain unchanged. The pricing on controllers has been more variable than on consoles, so the price hike might be less noticeable here. Nonetheless, here are the upcoming price changes for Xbox controllers:
- Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) - $64.99
- Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) - $69.99
- Xbox Wireless Controller - Special Edition - $79.99
- Xbox Wireless Controller - Limited Edition - $89.99 (up from $79.99)
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core) - $149.99 (up from $139.99)
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) - $199.99 (up from $179.99)
