Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Announced For iOS and Android

3v3 Team Boss Battle Arena

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy (DDFF) is a free-to-play 3v3 team boss battle arena available on iOS and Android devices. Developer Square Enix first mentioned the game on their official Twitter (X) account on October 12, followed by the launch of DDFF’s website and social media profiles on October 14.

They also released an announcement trailer that highlighted some of the game's story and gameplay elements. Its description on its website states, "In this three-versus-three team boss battle arena, two teams and roaming monsters clash as each side races to defeat the boss faster than the enemy team."

DDFF Warrior of Light in modern Tokyo defending against hordes of enemiesUnlike prior titles from the series that maintained the fantasy setting of Final Fantasy, DDFF will be set in contemporary Tokyo, as a massive crystal suddenly appears at the center of the city. Warriors from across the FF universe gather to defend the world from strange monsters emerging from a "threatening energy polluting the crystal." These characters are referred to as "Ghosts" by the public because they vanish quickly after every battle, trying to keep their identities hidden.

DDFF will maintain Dissidia’s gameplay mechanics by gathering Bravery and using it at the right moment to defeat enemies. Players gain various abilities that significantly assist them in combat, as illustrated by renowned artists such as Yoshitaka Amano, Raita Kazama, and Toshiyuki Itahana, among others.

Characters and Customization

DDFF CharactersEach character will be assigned to one of four roles: Ranged - for long-range specialists, Melee - those who prefer close combat, Support - characters that provide tools to help their allies perform better, and Agile - high-mobility characters capable of dashing across the battlefield.

● Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy I) - Support
● Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV) - Melee
● Krile Mayer Baldesion (Final Fantasy V) - Support
● Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) - Ranged
● Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII) - Melee
● Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII) - Ranged
● Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX) - Agile
● Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) - Agile

DDF Character cutscenesIn addition to their original outfits, FF characters will have a special outfit adapted for the modern world. Players will also encounter and collect Memorias, which are memorable moments from different FF series that can be used to increase character stats.

Additionally, classic music tracks from the FF series and their arranged versions are available in-game and can be used across various modes. Players can chat with others and use tags to share interests within the community.

Special Message From Tetsuya Nomura and Closed Beta Details

In celebration of the game's launch, DDFF Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura shared a special message on October 14 via the game’s official Twitter (X) page. He reflected on the series' history starting with the original Dissidia in 2008, then moving to their fifth title, Dissidia NT.

While their first mobile title for Dissidia, Opera Omnia, was active until 2024, Nomura stated that he believes the Dissidia series has always been an ongoing project. He mentioned, "DISSIDIA, the first of many crossover titles in the FINAL FANTASY series, came about from the ambitious spirit of our young staff members who wanted to challenge themselves."

With the sixth installment, DDFF, set in a unique world where FF meets modern Tokyo, Nomura emphasized that the team remains committed to pushing boundaries and creating another inspiring title.

He also encouraged fans to participate in the upcoming Closed Beta test, which is now open for registration until October 28, 2025. This test will be available from November 7 to November 14 exclusively on Android devices in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

It will accommodate up to 20,000 players, with random selection if the number of registrations exceeds that limit. Applications for the closed beta are accessible via DDFF’s official website.

There is currently a promotion offering a chance to win an exclusive DDFF-themed Amazon Gift Card to celebrate the game's closed beta registration. To join, fans need to follow DDFF’s official Twitter (X) account and like and share the event post. Entries will be accepted until October 22, 2025.

DDFF Characters approaching enemiesFans are excited about the return of the Dissidia series but have concerns about it being a mobile title. Many worries stem from Square Enix having several discontinued mobile projects over the years, such as Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, and Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia.

These titles stopped operating due to a significant drop in player engagement despite successful initial launches. Nevertheless, long-time fans of the series are pleased that Dissida continues to thrive, and they hope this game will succeed over time.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is scheduled for release in 2026 on mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
