Dynasty Warriors: Origins - How To Switch Characters

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer on his peace-seeking journey. This narrative offers significant choices, and regardless of your decisions, companions will often join you in battle.

These companions fight alongside you, but you can occasionally control them. They are exceptionally powerful, often proving more effective than the Wanderer, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, your companion is listed as the final option in the pre-battle menu. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.

Below their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, faster with:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodges
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Utilizing Weapon Arts

Most combat actions contribute to filling this meter, albeit at varying speeds.

A "Change Character" button appears beside the companion's blue meter once it's full. Press and hold this button (View button on Xbox, C on PC, or Touchpad on PlayStation) for about a second to switch.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters is best reserved for intense moments in large battles. Companions are exceptionally strong, and control is temporary (approximately one minute). The blue meter, which allowed the switch, will gradually deplete, showing your remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of potent combat arts.

Switching also initiates a powerful attack. Aim carefully at an enemy upon switching. Your companion will also have a full Musou gauge and health bar, enabling their special attack for devastating results.
