Fans Spot Super Smash Bros. in N64 Switch Online Teaser

By ZacharyNov 04,2025

Nintendo enthusiasts are closely analyzing an official promotional video for the Nintendo Switch Online catalog (the same one that revealed the Switch 2-exclusive CRT filter), where they've spotted what appears to be blurred box art for the N64 classic Super Smash Bros.

Speculation suggests the iconic fighting game might soon return through backwards compatibility, prompting fans to examine other obscured artwork in the video for clues.

A community investigation spearheaded by X/Twitter user ImakuniVT has seen fans artificially blurring N64 box art to match the video's quality, then comparing both versions for potential matches. While not precisely scientific, the effort has already yielded potential discoveries of other N64 classics reportedly coming to the service.

Alongside Super Smash Bros., other possible additions include Donkey Kong 64 (which would complement the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza event), Ubisoft's Ratman 2, the retro FPS Forsaken, and the unconventional platformer Glover.

The potential return of Super Smash Bros. raises exciting questions about multiplayer functionality - could Nintendo potentially implement online play? While fans await news about Smash Bros. on Switch 2 (as series director Masahiro Sakurai focuses on a new Kirby project), this development provides an engaging diversion.

Recently, Super Mario Strikers joined the Switch 2-exclusive GameCube lineup on Nintendo Switch Online, expanding the initial selection that includes The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2. Other confirmed upcoming titles for the service feature Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
