Recently surfaced audition tapes from 2005 reveal Henry Cavill's early portrayal of James Bond before Daniel Craig ultimately secured the iconic role.
The Lost Auditions Come to Light
As reported by Games Radar, these rare audition clips emerged on filmmaker Ron South's YouTube channel, which boasts around 1,890 subscribers. Alongside Cavill's footage, tapes featuring Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr testing for 007 also surfaced.
Cavill's audition has generated particular buzz over the years, with many industry figures - including Casino Royale director Martin Campbell - praising his performance. Campbell notably deemed Cavill's screen test "tremendous" and reportedly favored him for the role.
The Road Not Taken
Despite Campbell's enthusiasm, studio executives ultimately chose Craig instead. Cavill would eventually get his chance at playing a spy in 2024's Argylle, though the star-studded film (featuring Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell) failed to impress critics - including IGN's scathing 4/10 review.
The Superman actor maintains a thriving career regardless, having played DC's Man of Steel, Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher, and numerous other memorable roles.
