Once Human, the eagerly awaited post-apocalyptic open-world survival game from NetEase, has achieved a remarkable peak player count of 230,000 on Steam during its initial PC release. Set to launch on mobile in September, the game has also teased exciting new updates that are coming soon on the heels of this announcement.
The anticipated updates include a PvP encounter for the Mayflies and Rosetta factions, as well as a new PvE area in a northern mountain region, featuring new enemies and additional content. Once Human is set in a world that has undergone a catastrophic event, resulting in borderline supernatural phenomena, making it one of NetEase's most highly anticipated releases.
Surprisingly, despite appearing ready for launch, NetEase has decided to delay the mobile version of Once Human, which is still scheduled for September. Since its launch, Once Human has secured the seventh position among top sellers and the fifth spot on the most-played list on Steam.

It's important to note the term 'peak' players, indicating that the average number of players might be lower. A fall-off from the peak so soon after launch could be a concern for NetEase, especially considering the game initially garnered 300,000 wishlists on Steam.
While NetEase has established a strong presence in mobile gaming, the company appears to be making a significant push towards the PC market. Although Once Human impresses with its graphics and gameplay, it may be challenging for NetEase to quickly shift their primary audience from mobile to PC.
Nonetheless, the upcoming mobile release of Once Human is sure to generate excitement whenever it arrives. If you're looking for something to keep you occupied while waiting for the mobile version, check out our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) for other recommendations.
