Hyper Light Breaker, the eagerly awaited sequel to the acclaimed indie game Hyper Light Drifter, introduces significant changes to its predecessor's gameplay. This new installment shifts from 2D pixel art to a stunning 3D environment while maintaining its distinctive visual style. Unlike the linear RPG format of the original, Hyper Light Breaker adopts a rogue-lite structure with extraction mechanics, and crucially, it offers a multiplayer experience.
Playing Hyper Light Breaker with friends is not just an option; it's a central feature that enhances gameplay, making challenges more manageable and victories more rewarding. This guide will walk you through setting up multiplayer sessions with friends and joining public games through online matchmaking.
How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends

To enjoy Hyper Light Breaker's co-op multiplayer with your friends, you'll need to create a Private multiplayer room. Once you spawn into the Cursed Outpost, the game's hub, head to the counter to the left of Pherus Bit, your commander, located directly across from the Outpost's entrance.
Interact with the counter by pressing the designated button (usually R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Here, you have the options to create, join, or check invitations for a Breaker Team. To play with friends, select "Create Breaker Team."
In the subsequent menu, enable the "Password Required" option and set a password. After setting up your private Breaker Team, you can invite up to two friends using your platform's social service, whether it's PSN, Xbox, or Steam. The game supports groups of up to three players.
If your friends are already in the game, they'll receive the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of the Multiplayer menu. Otherwise, they can join through the invitation link you've sent them.
Your team might also appear in the general Breaker Teams list under "Join Breaker Team" for others to join if there's space. If other methods fail, your friend can search this list and join your private group directly.
Once your friends accept the invite and enter the correct password, you're all set to embark on cooperative runs in Hyper Light Breaker.
Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker

If you're looking to play multiplayer but don't have friends who own Hyper Light Breaker, the game's matchmaking system offers a solution. You can either create a public group without a password or join an existing one through the game's matchmaking feature.
From the Multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost, select "Join Breaker Team" and navigate to the bottom of the screen to choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team."
The system will then search for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and place you into one. After a brief loading screen, you'll join the world of the team's creator.
To exit a multiplayer session, return to the counter in the Cursed Outpost and access the Multiplayer menu. An option to disconnect from the current session will be available at the bottom of the list. Selecting this will return you to your own world. Alternatively, you can simply quit the game to end the session.
