Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles Gets Playable Jar Jar Binks and More!
Aspyr has unveiled a surprising playable character for the upcoming re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles on modern consoles: Jar Jar Binks! A new trailer showcases the Gungan wielding a hefty staff in action. This isn't the only addition; Aspyr has revealed nine other new playable characters, with more to come.
The 2000 original Jedi Power Battles featured characters and locations from Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This updated version aims to recapture that nostalgia while adding fresh content. Along with customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support, players will get a significantly expanded roster. Jar Jar Binks' inclusion is arguably the most unexpected, though.
The recently released trailer highlights Jar Jar's gameplay, showing him battling enemies with his staff and delivering his characteristically chaotic dialogue. While some fans may have envisioned a Darth Jar Jar-esque lightsaber-wielding character, this version embraces his more comedic, less menacing side. Jar Jar Binks will be playable when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd; pre-orders are open now.
Newly Revealed Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
Aspyr is significantly expanding the playable character list for this re-release. In addition to the ten characters listed above, several more are planned. The additions offer a nice variety, including familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, as well as various droids. Interestingly, Jar Jar isn't the only Gungan; the Gungan Guard also joins the fray.
With the release date just weeks away, fans can soon experience these new characters in action. Aspyr's experience with other classic Star Wars game re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, hopefully translates into a successful and satisfying update for Jedi Power Battles.
