The popular MMO, Second Life, launches its public beta on iOS and Android. Premium subscribers can access it now. Free access for non-subscribers is yet to be announced.
Second Life, the social MMO recently announced for mobile, is now available in public beta on iOS and Android. Download it from the App Store and Google Play.
However, access requires a Premium account. While not a free trial for newcomers, this beta release significantly increases the flow of information regarding the mobile version.
For those unfamiliar, Second Life is a pioneering MMO emphasizing social interaction rather than combat or exploration. Released in 2003, it introduced concepts like social gaming and user-generated content to the mainstream. It's considered an early metaverse precursor.
Players create and live out "Second Lives" as customized avatars, engaging in various activities.
Is it too late?
Second Life's success is undeniable, but its age and subscription model present challenges in a market dominated by games like Roblox. While a pioneer, it faces stiff competition. Will a mobile release revitalize it, or is this a final attempt for a former leader? Only time will tell.
