After three years of dedicated development, incorporating player feedback, and diligently addressing bugs, Longvinter has triumphantly exited early access on Steam with the launch of version 1.0. The developers proudly announced this significant milestone, unveiling a suite of updates that promise to rejuvenate the gaming experience for both newcomers and seasoned fans alike.
The most notable addition in this update is the introduction of oil rigs scattered across the archipelago. Players can now delve into the exciting new mechanic of extracting oil, refining it into fuel, and engaging in intense battles against mercenaries from the Longvinter Resource Initiative (LRI) who control these vital supply lines. Alongside these new mechanics, the game introduces fresh events such as helicopter crashes, which offer players the chance to scavenge tactical gear, and an underground arena where hourly battles for valuable rewards await.
The game world itself has been enriched with a diverse array of new wildlife, including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats. These animals can now be tamed and used as mounts, adding a new layer of interaction and strategy to the game. The update also brings a plethora of new items to the table, such as hats that provide buffs, combat vests, an assortment of weapons and explosives, new kitchen recipes, and a variety of interactive objects for building and decorating. These include oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and turrets. Additionally, significant adjustments have been made to weapon balance, ensuring a more dynamic and fair gameplay experience.
Looking forward, the eagerly anticipated 1.1 update will introduce farming mechanics, a revamped tutorial designed to ease new players into the game, apartment rentals, and shared community spaces. Furthermore, the developers have confirmed that Longvinter will expand its reach to PlayStation in 2026, bringing this immersive experience to a broader audience beyond PC players.
