During today's Mario Kart World Direct, fans were treated to an in-depth look at the highly anticipated Free Roam mode, shedding light on its multiplayer capabilities and what players can expect to do while exploring Mario Kart World's expansive environment.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of Free Roam mode. This innovative feature allows players to freely navigate the game's vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart titles, where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates them into an open world. This means players can seamlessly transition from one track to another in specific game modes and enjoy the freedom to explore the areas in between. When not engaged in racing, Free Roam mode offers a delightful mini-adventure. The world is brimming with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery for now. Players will also encounter P-Switches scattered throughout the map, which, when activated, trigger small challenges like collecting blue coins.
Moreover, Free Roam mode includes a Photo Mode, allowing players to capture stunning images of their racers in various poses and angles at any time. Importantly, Free Roam isn't limited to solo play. Players can join friends to explore together, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players on the same system via split-screen, and up to eight players total through local wireless play, with two players per system.
The Mario Kart World Direct also unveiled a plethora of other exciting details, including new characters, courses, and modes. To stay updated on all the announcements, you can find more information right here.
