Capcom Producer Hints at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Character Revival
Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto has fueled speculation about the return of beloved original characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in future Capcom fighting games. Speaking at EVO 2024, Matsumoto stated that the possibility of Amingo, Ruby Heart, and SonSon returning in "a new game" is "always a possibility."

This renewed interest stems from the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a remastered collection including Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Matsumoto believes this release will reintroduce these unique characters to a wider audience, potentially sparking demand for their inclusion in titles like Street Fighter 6.

"If there are enough people who are interested in these characters, then who knows? Maybe there is a chance they could appear in Street Fighter 6 or another fighting game," Matsumoto explained. He emphasized that the re-release provides a valuable opportunity to expand Capcom's creative pool and content library.

The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection itself has been in development for several years, requiring extensive collaboration with Marvel. Matsumoto also revealed Capcom's desire to create a new Versus series entry and re-release other legacy fighting games on modern platforms, contingent on fan interest and logistical factors.

"We have a lot of other legacy fighting games that we know fans out there really want them to be re-released again on modern platforms," Matsumoto stated. He acknowledged the challenges involved, including collaborations with external parties, but stressed the importance of re-releasing classic titles to revitalize the community.

The future of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise and the potential return of its original characters hinges on fan response to the upcoming Fighting Collection. The possibility remains open, leaving fans eagerly anticipating further announcements.
