The upcoming major update for *Marvel Rivals* has sparked some confusion among players, particularly regarding a potential rank reset. In most live-service games, a rank reset at the start of each season is standard practice, allowing players to adapt to new changes and climb the ranks anew. NetEase Games initially planned a rank reset with the mid-season update for Season 1, scheduled for February 21, 2025. This update was set to introduce two new heroes, The Thing and Human Torch, which could significantly alter the game's meta. However, the announcement of a mid-season rank reset was met with strong opposition from the community, prompting NetEase to reconsider their approach.
In response to the feedback, NetEase announced a change in their strategy. "After the release of Dev Talk 10 regarding the seasonal rank adjustment, we received a wealth of feedback from the community," the *Marvel Rivals* team stated in a blog post. "A common concern was the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season, which has made participating in competitive mode less enjoyable. In light of the community’s input, we have decided to make some changes to optimize the rank system."
The revised plan is clear: "When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season. Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All."
This decision is a boon for players, especially those at the top ranks, as it allows them an additional month and a half to compete at the highest level. It also showcases NetEase's responsiveness to player feedback, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing the gaming experience based on community input.
In addition to the rank system changes, the Season 1 mid-season update will introduce The Thing and Human Torch, along with other significant adjustments. While specific details on character buffs and nerfs are yet to be revealed, the community is eager to see how these changes will impact the game's balance.
