Marvel's Spider-Man 2: PC Release and PSN Requirement
January 30, 2025: The PC Launch Date
Announced at New York Comic Con, the PC version, developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games, promises a top-tier experience. Expect ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical options. While features like DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse support and ultrawide optimization are key focuses.“Bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to a new audience on PC…has been a great experience,” stated Nixxes Community Manager Julian Huijbregts. Insomniac Games' Mike Fitzgerald added that the PC port will feel "at home" on the platform.
All post-launch content from the PS5 version will be included, featuring twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, "Ultimate Levels," new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, and enhanced Photo Mode features. The Digital Deluxe Edition will offer even more. However, no new story content will be added.
The PSN Requirement: A Point of Contention
A significant concern is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, a growing trend among PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions without PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility. While Sony reversed a similar decision for Helldivers 2, the impact remains a point of discussion. This requirement applies to other Sony PC ports, including single-player titles, prompting questions about its necessity.
The PC release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 marks a significant step for Sony in expanding its reach beyond PlayStation consoles. While the PSN requirement needs addressing, bringing these exclusive titles to PC is a positive development. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a superb sequel.
