Metal Slug: Awakening reimagines the classic run-and-gun gameplay for a new generation. Initially revealed in 2020 by TiMi Studios as Metal Slug Code: J, the game has undergone development and name changes, finally launching in Southeast Asia in late 2023 before its global pre-registration.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Metal Slug, originally released in 1996 by Nazca Corporation, is a beloved Japanese run-and-gun series that has since evolved into a multimedia phenomenon. While Metal Slug Defense (2014), Metal Slug Attack (2016), and Metal Slug Commander (2020) previously brought the action to mobile, Awakening promises a significant upgrade.
Awakening stays true to the original's core mechanics, enhancing them with updated visuals and new features. Players can expect to revisit familiar characters and embark on fresh missions. Game modes include a World Adventure, 3-player cooperative Team-up battles, and challenging Roguelike experiences.
