Metro 2033 Redux Is Free Until April 16

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Metro is giving away a free game for the next 48 hours. On April 14, 4A Games announced via the franchise's official Twitter (X) account that Metro 2033 Redux will be free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.

This offer is intended to give new players an opportunity to experience where the series began. Additionally, 4A Games shared an update last month regarding the 15th-anniversary celebrations. In a blog post on their official website dated March 16, the developers outlined their plans for the milestone.

The post stated, "Throughout this year, we will host various events, deals, and celebratory content on Metro’s social media channels to thank our players for joining us on this incredible journey so far."

4A Games was originally established in Kyiv, Ukraine, before expanding its operations to Malta. The game series draws inspiration from the works of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, best known for his sci-fi novel Metro 2033 and its sequels.

Despite the ongoing challenges in their home country, 4A Games continues to address themes related to the war in Ukraine. They explained, "These circumstances are incredibly difficult and the situation remains dangerous and beyond our control. However, our team is currently as safe as possible. We ask for your patience regarding the announcement of the next Metro title—it will be ready when it's ready, and we cannot wait for you to see it."

The Next Metro Game

The developers have confirmed they are currently working on two major AAA projects: the next Metro installment and an entirely new intellectual property. While specific details about the new IP remain under wraps, they offered some insight into the next Metro game.

The war in Ukraine has significantly influenced the development of the next Metro. As mentioned in the post, "As we shared in our last studio update, the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022 reshaped our approach to storytelling in the next Metro game. With real-life events mirroring the game’s themes for many of our Ukrainian developers, we drew from these lived experiences to craft an even darker narrative, making the series' underlying themes more pronounced and meaningful than ever."

Despite the adversity, 4A Games remains committed to delivering powerful, reality-inspired stories. The developers reassured fans that they will overcome these obstacles and deliver a high-quality game that reflects the series' enduring relevance.
