Milly Alcock: 'High-Up' Suggested Acting Coach on 'House of the Dragon' Set

Milly Alcock, renowned for her role as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the acclaimed Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, faced a challenging start to her journey. The Australian actress revealed on The Tonight Show that on just her second day on set, someone in a high-ranking position suggested she needed acting coaching. "On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the, I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up, pulled me aside and was like, 'Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach,'" Alcock shared, adding that she was "mortified" by the encounter.

Despite the initial setback, Alcock humorously reflected on the incident, saying it "just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job," in a light-hearted jab at herself. She continued, "I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’"

Alcock's portrayal of the young Rhaenyra Targaryen, daughter and heir to King Viserys I Targaryen, has been a significant part of House of the Dragon. She appeared as a series regular in Season 1 and returned as a guest star in Season 2, which explores the decline of the Targaryen dynasty. The role of the adult Rhaenyra is played by Emma D’Arcy, who depicts her transformation into Queen.

The series, which premiered in August 2022, quickly gained popularity and was renewed for a second season just days after its debut. It received a Season 3 renewal in June 2024, even before the second season began airing. House of the Dragon also clinched the Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Drama, underscoring its success and critical acclaim.

Looking ahead, Alcock is set to expand her superhero portfolio by playing Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in the upcoming Superman movie this summer and in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow next year. As for Season 3 of House of the Dragon, while it is confirmed to be in development, an official release date has yet to be announced.
