Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide
This guide details the methods for acquiring Filler Metal, a crucial upgrade material in NieR: Automata. Its scarcity necessitates a strategic approach.
Locating Filler Metal:
Filler Metal is a rare, randomly spawning item found within the depths of the Factory. Its spawn location varies with each playthrough, making farming unreliable. The probability of finding it is significantly lower than other items in the area.
To optimize your search, utilize the Factory: Hanger access point for fast travel after unlocking it during the main storyline. This provides a convenient starting point deep within the Factory. Note that you may need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progression.
While increased movement speed can slightly improve efficiency, consistent farming remains impractical. The most effective strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawned items. However, purchasing remains the most reliable method.
Purchasing Filler Metal:
Filler Metal can only be purchased from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. This option becomes available only after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining one of the final endings. Accessing the Shopkeeper via Chapter Select will then reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G per unit.
Despite the high cost, purchasing is far more efficient than repeatedly scouring the Factory. Considering the necessity of Filler Metal for essential Pod upgrades (crucial for overcoming high-level enemies), this method often proves more practical for players who have progressed far enough in the game.
