"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

By AudreyJul 08,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to use the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen.

Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been eagerly speculating about the functionality of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con supports "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions—just like a traditional mouse. What’s more, two Joy-Con can even be used in mouse mode at the same time, either one in each hand or mixed with standard control mode for added flexibility.

Now, additional details have surfaced. As demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared via [X/Twitter], the Joy-Con 2’s mouse controls are fully functional for navigating the Switch 2’s Home menu.

According to Nintendo, “If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen.” The company further explained, “To display the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown.”

While using mouse controls, players can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus, and the feature is supported on both the Home menu and compatible software. When you're ready to return to standard thumbstick navigation, just rotate the Joy-Con 2 back into a horizontal position.

Although the full list of mouse-compatible games remains under wraps, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology working seamlessly in titles such as Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the innovative wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
