Earlier this year, fans first noticed the updated look of Donkey Kong in official artwork and early footage of *Mario Kart World*. Now, Diddy Kong has received a similar facelift. New images from Nintendo’s official website and promotional displays at Licensing Expo 2025—shared publicly and captured by attendees like Cptn_Alex—show a more stylized and cartoonish version of the character. His eyes appear rounder, and his expression is more playful and expressive than before.
Licensing Expo 2025, currently underway in Las Vegas, serves as a platform for brands to showcase their franchises for merchandising and partnership opportunities. Attendees were able to get an up-close look at both the new Diddy and Donkey Kong designs on display. This theory is further supported by Princess Peach’s own subtle redesign, which was introduced on the box art for her game *Princess Peach: Showtime!*—a version that mirrors her appearance in the *Super Mario* film.
Looking ahead, Donkey Kong is set to take the spotlight once again in the upcoming *Donkey Kong Bananza*, a title slated for the Nintendo Switch 2. While Diddy Kong’s involvement remains unconfirmed, the timing of his updated look suggests he may very well be part of the action. Additionally, with a sequel to *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* reportedly in development under the working title *Super Mario World*, it's likely we’ll see even more of the Kongs on screen—complete with their modernized looks.
