Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Mysterious Switch Online Playtest
Get ready for a Nintendo interactive alarm clock! The newly unveiled Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo ($99) uses game sounds to coax you out of bed. Forget gentle melodies; this alarm responds to your movements, escalating until you're out from under the covers. Think of it as a morning victory fanfare!
Initially featuring sounds from Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with free updates promised, the Alarmo uses a radio wave sensor to detect movement without compromising your privacy. Unlike camera-based solutions, it doesn't record video and works even in dark rooms or with obstacles.
Akama, a Nintendo developer, highlights the Alarmo's ability to detect subtle movements, ensuring privacy while offering a unique wake-up experience.
For a limited time, US and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members can purchase the Alarmo early via the My Nintendo Store. It will also be available in-store at Nintendo New York.
Meanwhile, Nintendo is launching a Switch Online playtest. Applications open October 10th (8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET) and close October 15th (7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET), or sooner if 10,000 participants are reached. The playtest, focusing on a new Nintendo Switch Online feature, runs from October 23rd to November 5th. Eligibility requires an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, being 18 or older, and having a Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.
