Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, and now the more budget-friendly RTX 5060 is hitting the market following its announcement at Computex.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 is priced at a starting point of $299, offering 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors. This configuration is designed to deliver a solid 1080p gaming experience. Nvidia boasts impressive performance from the RTX 5060 at this resolution, claiming it can achieve 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p on max settings with 4x multi-frame generation enabled.
Multi-Frame Generation is a key feature Nvidia is promoting with this new line of GPUs. Even though the RTX 5060 is the entry-level model, it fully supports Multi-Frame Generation and the entire DLSS 4 technology suite. However, with only 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, there are limits to what DLSS can achieve.
It's important to note that the $299 starting price is just that—a starting point. While some models will be available at this price, there will also be pricier versions with added features like factory overclocking and RGB lighting.
Reviews Are Coming... Later
Despite its affordability, it's wise to hold off on purchasing the RTX 5060 until independent reviews are available. Nvidia's performance claims are based on tests with Multi-Frame Generation enabled, and real-world performance will need to be verified in lab conditions.
Unfortunately, reviews will take a bit longer to surface this time around. Unlike previous launches such as the RTX 5090, Nvidia isn't providing an early driver to the press, so expect a delay of about a week before comprehensive reviews are published. The RTX 5060 is poised to be a strong contender for 1080p gaming, but the rest of the Blackwell series has shown mixed results in terms of generational performance improvements.
The RTX 5060 might follow in the footsteps of the RTX 5070, with a similar performance increase over its predecessor. When asked about the performance gain compared to the RTX 4060, Nvidia suggested the 5060 could see up to double the performance with frame generation activated, but only about a 20% increase in games without ray tracing or frame generation—and that's under optimal conditions.
As with any high-tech purchase, it's best to wait for reviews before making a decision, ensuring you get the best value for your money. Those reviews are on their way, but they may take a few days to appear.
