"Overwatch Mobile: Nexon and Blizzard Sign New Deal"

By BenjaminMay 25,2025

The prospect of Overwatch coming to mobile devices has long been considered a distant dream, especially following the revelations in Jason Schreier's recent book about Blizzard, which suggested that a mobile version had been shelved. However, a fresh partnership between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard might just reignite those hopes.

The primary focus of this new agreement centers on securing the publishing and development rights for a new installment in the renowned StarCraft real-time strategy (RTS) franchise. The competition for these rights was intense, with companies like Krafton and Netmarble also in the running. Should the deal be finalized, Nexon would take the helm in driving the future of the StarCraft series.

Yet, the most intriguing aspect of this deal is the reported inclusion of publishing rights for an Overwatch mobile project. This revelation not only breathes new life into the idea of Overwatch on mobile but also hints at the possibility of it being an official sequel in the form of a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA).

Nerf thisThis wouldn't mark the first time Overwatch has ventured into the MOBA genre, as fans might recall Blizzard's previous efforts with Heroes of the Storm. It's conceivable that Heroes of the Storm could be adapted for mobile, potentially serving as the Overwatch MOBA in question.

Alternatively, a completely new spin-off could be on the horizon. However, the notion of this being an 'Overwatch 3' can be safely dismissed, as such a move would represent a significant shift for a franchise traditionally focused on console and PC platforms.

Embracing the MOBA genre could prove advantageous for Overwatch, especially with new competitors like Marvel Rivals emerging as potential threats. This might be the right moment for Blizzard and their publishing partners to take decisive action to revitalize this once-thriving franchise.
