Palworld Introduces Crossplay in Major Update Late March

Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update scheduled for late March 2025, which will introduce crossplay functionality across all platforms. This eagerly awaited update will also include a world transfer feature for Pals, enhancing the multiplayer experience. In a recent X/Twitter post, Pocketpair shared a promotional image featuring various Palworld characters engaged in a battle with a formidable Pal, yet kept further details under wraps. John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" to be unveiled with the update.

This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. The studio has outlined a robust content roadmap for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the immensely popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld hit the market with a $30 price tag on Steam and was simultaneously available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, shattering sales records and achieving unprecedented concurrent player numbers. Takuro Mizobe, the head of Pocketpair, admitted that the game's launch overwhelmed the studio with its massive profits. In response to Palworld's success, Pocketpair quickly moved to expand its reach, signing a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at broadening the IP and bringing the game to PS5.

However, the studio faces a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who are seeking "an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages" due to alleged infringement on "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted how players summon Pals in the game and is prepared to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
