Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Happiness Hands

Quick Links

Encountering Golden Hands in Persona 4 Golden is a common occurrence, with these formidable foes appearing randomly in dungeons, both in the open world and lurking within chests. Each dungeon presents a progressively stronger variant, consistently ranking among the game's most challenging encounters.

Despite their difficulty, defeating Golden Hands yields substantial experience points (XP), making the challenge worthwhile. Happiness Hands, the Golden Hand variant found in Yukiko's Castle, present an early-game obstacle. This guide details effective strategies for overcoming them.

Happiness Hand Affinities in Persona 4 Golden

Happiness Hands exhibit strong resistance to all elemental attacks.

The key to defeating Happiness Hands lies in exploiting their vulnerability to physical damage. While Almighty attacks are typically effective against Golden Hands, this option is unavailable early in the game. Happiness Hands inflict minimal damage, often spending turns idle, but they will flee if given the opportunity.

A weakness exploit or critical hit will trigger their escape. When facing multiple Happiness Hands, prioritize targeting a single enemy, as defeating even one before they flee is a significant achievement at this stage.

Strategies for Defeating Happiness Hands in Persona 4 Golden

The most effective strategy involves fusing Orobas, a Persona possessing the Hysterical Slap skill. This skill delivers two hits and has a chance to inflict the Rage status effect. A Raged Happiness Hand will continuously use its basic attack, preventing its escape. Orobas can be fused using the following Persona combinations:

  • Apsaras + Forneus
  • Apsaras + Slime

Before engaging a Happiness Hand, ensure your party is fully healed. Focus solely on physical attacks that consume HP, avoiding any other actions. Have Yosuke utilize Sonic Punch, Chie employ Skull Cracker, and the Protagonist use Hysterical Slap, repeating this cycle until victory. Success in this early-game encounter relies heavily on luck due to limited options; however, defeating a Happiness Hand provides significant experience point gains for your party.

Crucially, avoid using an all-out attack unless certain of a kill; otherwise, the Happiness Hand will recover and flee.
