The team at Rebel Wolves, composed of former developers from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has introduced their new project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Although they are not aiming for a full AAA scale, their ambitions remain sky-high. Rebel Wolves' founder, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, emphasized their goal of achieving The Witcher 3-level quality, but on a more focused scale:
"We want AAA quality, like The Witcher 3—that’s our heritage. But as a small studio on our first project, we’re creating something more compact yet just as polished."
The game is anticipated to take players around 30-40 hours to complete. Tomaszkiewicz pointed out the absurdity of comparing every game to The Witcher 3's extensive playtime, which often stretched beyond 200-300 hours:
"Comparing anything to The Witcher 3, which was meant to last 100+ hours but often exceeded 200-300 hours, is crazy. But is size what makes a game AAA? Call of Duty is AAA without a massive campaign. So, does scale really matter?"
He also dismissed industry labels like "AAA" and "AAAA" as irrelevant to the true quality of a game.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action RPG that follows the journey of a half-vampire protagonist, who has 30 days and 30 nights to rescue his loved ones. Despite the time constraint, the game promises a seamless and engaging experience. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, although a specific release date has yet to be announced.
