A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently disclosed on LinkedIn that the studio has ceased development of a new game this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was abruptly halted without any explanation regarding the reasons behind the decision.

Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that the now-canceled project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, such as Titanfall 3. Instead, Respawn had assembled an "experimental team" specifically for this project, bringing on board experts skilled in multiplayer shooter development.

This isn't the first time Respawn has pulled the plug on a project; they previously canceled an arcade shooter known as Titanfall Legends last year.

The Titanfall series is celebrated for its exhilarating mix of action and mech piloting, allowing players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or as formidable Titans. Since the launch of the first game in 2014, the franchise has captivated gamers worldwide with its innovative gameplay, which seamlessly blends parkour with intense team-based battles.

Currently, Respawn's efforts are concentrated on the development of the third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series and a new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe, which is being developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
