Crunchyroll's roster of exclusive anime games is growing again with the mobile-only release of Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town. As with their other offerings, this title requires a Crunchyroll subscription and arrives as part of the major Ani-May promotional event.

For the uninitiated, what is Crayon Shin-Chan? Similar to Doraemon (which we coincidentally covered very recently), it's a long-running Japanese manga series beloved domestically but less known internationally. It follows the everyday escapades of Shinnosuke Nohara, his family, and their community.

Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town not only stars Shinnosuke and familiar characters but also acts as a spiritual successor to another cult classic: the PlayStation One game My Summer Vacation. That pioneering life sim only recently saw a Western release, but will be instantly recognizable to some players.

You don't need to be a fan of the series, or nostalgic for Boku No Natsuyasumi (My Summer Vacation's Japanese title), to enjoy Shiro and the Coal Town. You'll step into Shin Chan's shoes to experience daily life in the Akita countryside, filled with mischief and mini-games like fishing and gardening.

If the beautifully rendered Japanese countryside isn't enough, you can also discover the mysterious Coal Town, adding a touch of fantasy to the summer vacation. It's a compelling entry in the life-sim genre, packed with activities and sights.

Furthermore, this release helps cement Crunchyroll's reputation for bringing unique cult classics to mobile. Looking for something different? Check out our list of the top 25 role-playing games for iOS and Android for more fantasy adventures.
