Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following recent fan speculation, Hollow Knight fans can now breathe a sigh of relief—Team Cherry's Marketing and Publishing Lead, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, has officially confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong is not only real but currently in active development.
The news comes after co-creator William Pellen updated his X (Twitter) profile picture to an image of a cake, sparking theories among fans that it could be related to the long-awaited sequel. Some speculated it was a clue pointing toward a potential Silksong ARG or even an announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn reached out to Griffin directly for clarification, who responded by confirming the cake change was simply a lighthearted, unrelated update. Fireb0rn later tweeted, “Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”
Despite the false alarm, Griffin reassured fans with a crucial update: “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release.” This marks the first official statement regarding Silksong in over a year and a half.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long Journey
Originally unveiled in February 2019, Silksong was initially expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, explaining that the game had grown significantly in scope and that they wanted to ensure it met their high standards.
Fans learned at the time that Silksong would introduce players to an entirely new kingdom, feature nearly 150 fresh enemies, and include a brand-new difficulty mode called Silk Soul. With almost two years having passed since the delay, this latest update—though brief—is a welcomed sign of progress.
Responses to the news were mixed. Many fans expressed appreciation for the transparency and encouraged the team to continue taking the time needed to deliver a polished experience. Others, however, voiced frustration after waiting nearly six years for the game, criticizing the lack of detailed updates as being insufficient for such a highly anticipated title.
When released, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey through an unknown world as she embarks on a deadly pilgrimage to reach the summit of a mysterious kingdom.
While no official release window has been shared yet, fans are hopeful for more concrete updates soon. Be sure to stay tuned for further announcements as they develop!
