Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated for a March 2027 theatrical release. Paramount Pictures has officially set the release date for March 19, 2027, as reported by Variety. While details remain scarce beyond this date, anticipation is high.
This sequel comes as no surprise following the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which raked in $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, surpassing the impressive $148 million earned by the first film. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding the original Sonic design, which underwent significant changes during post-production.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. This continues the long-standing cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega.
The live-action Sonic franchise continues to expand, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric streaming TV spin-off. Based on the popular Sega video game series, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).
