Stardew Valley Expansion Over Sequel, Says Developer

Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has indicated he might "eventually develop Stardew Valley 2."

Before excitement builds too strongly, however, the developer clarified in the same TigerBelly interview that "expanding Stardew Valley with new content is far simpler than building an entirely new game from the ground up."

"All the core systems are already in place and fully functional. Developing those foundational elements isn't the enjoyable part. When I work on a current update, I can freely incorporate new features—like adding green rain or other spontaneous, imaginative concepts."

"To be honest, I may create Stardew Valley 2 someday," Barone added (via Nintendo Life).

During the conversation, Barone also expressed his desire to avoid being pigeonholed as "the Stardew Valley guy," which motivated his current focus on developing Haunted Chocolatier. As for that project's release timeline: don't anticipate an announcement soon. Barone noted there's "still significant work remaining," especially since he believes the new game "must surpass" Stardew Valley in quality.
