Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here’s how to unlock the Deep Woods and find Caldarus within *Fields of Mistria*.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and use the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines blocking the entrance. Begin by placing four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar at Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items are found between floors 50 and 59, while the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To obtain the Sealing Scroll, leave the following items in the bin by Balor’s wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After meeting these requirements, speak with Balor, who will inform you that the scroll will arrive the next day. Once you have the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.
Typically, breaking a magic seal results in a few words from the mines' Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess urges you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health diminishes, Caldarus appears in his human form, asking for your help and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover.
Caldarus gifts you the Dragon’s Breath spell, which you can use to burn through the vines at the Deep Woods entrance. This spell also unlocks other previously inaccessible areas on the map. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it in front of the area's entrance, permanently unlocking the Deep Woods and other areas.

How To Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can find Caldarus in his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is located north of the Eastern Road on your map. To reach it, use the Dragon’s Breath spell at the entrance. Caldarus' exact location is marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
Enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north to reach the temple where Caldarus awaits.

Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area for just 10 Essence, making visits to Caldarus quick and convenient. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, connecting with him in spirit.
