The Witcher Saga Continues: Ciri Takes Center Stage in Witcher 4
Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, shifting the focus to Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight now shines on the younger generation.
The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a superstitious ritual, where a young woman is slated for sacrifice to appease a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more complex and sinister situation than initially apparent.
While a release date remains elusive, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077 (even longer), and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait seems likely.
Platform exclusivity is yet to be confirmed. Given the anticipated timeframe, a current-generation console focus is expected, though not explicitly stated. Simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC are anticipated. A Switch port, while possible on a future Nintendo console (perhaps the Switch 2), seems less likely given Witcher 3's demanding performance on the current Switch.
Though gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, Signs, and magical phrases. A notable addition appears to be Ciri's chain, utilized for both trapping the monster and channeling magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle (Geralt) previously hinted at Geralt's presence in the game, albeit not in a leading role. The trailer features Geralt's voice, suggesting a mentoring capacity.
