Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest any concerns sparked by earlier disclaimers. Initially, Nintendo's website for the Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom included a notice stating that the game would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature. This led to worries among fans, as reported by IGN last week, about whether this and potentially other games would lack this crucial feature.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website to clarify the situation. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page has been revised. It now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This update suggests that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.
This change should provide reassurance to Switch 2 owners concerned about save data compatibility. The same message has also been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these enhanced versions.
In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining the previously announced price of $449.99. As expected, the pre-orders were met with high demand. For more information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
