Monster Hunter Wilds Remains Among 2025's Top-Selling Games
Story, Immersion, and Crossplay Drive Monster Hunter Wilds' Popularity

Monster Hunter Wilds has cemented its place as one of 2025’s most dominant titles, continuing to rank among the year’s top-selling games just months after its explosive launch. The title surpassed 8 million units sold within just three days — a record for Capcom and a testament to its massive global appeal.
In a recent March 10 interview with The Nikkei, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto shared his insights into the game’s unprecedented success. He emphasized that Monster Hunter Wilds’ compelling narrative and cinematic-quality voice acting were pivotal in drawing in both longtime fans and newcomers alike. “We wanted to create a world that feels alive — not just in visuals, but in story and emotion,” Tsujimoto said. “The journey of the hunter, the mystery of the New World, and the emotional arcs of our characters all play a part in making players feel connected.”
Tsujimoto also highlighted the significance of crossplay functionality, calling it a cornerstone of the game’s community-driven success. “Players from PlayStation, Xbox, and PC can now hunt together seamlessly. This isn’t just a feature — it’s a philosophy. We believe the bond between hunters is stronger when it transcends platforms.”
In a separate conversation with GamesRadar+, Tsujimoto reiterated Capcom’s strong commitment to the PC platform, noting the growing presence of PC gaming in Japan and worldwide. “We dedicated significant effort to make it happen this time,” he said. “This gives you the freedom to choose your preferred platform, then go online and hunt with friends — no matter where they are.”
The upcoming limited-time event, Whispers of the Forgotten Grove, set to launch in April 2025, will expand on the game’s narrative depth. Players will explore a mysterious, fog-wracked region rumored to hold ancient secrets tied to the origin of the wilds’ monsters. The event will feature new story missions, exclusive gear inspired by mythical creatures, and a seasonal questline that challenges hunters to uncover the truth behind a forgotten guardian.
While Tsujimoto celebrates the game’s narrative strides, not all fans are in unanimous agreement. Some players have voiced concerns on Steam forums, criticizing the lengthy Seikrit rides, underwritten character arcs, and occasionally stilted dialogue. Yet, many acknowledge that Monster Hunter’s core draw remains its addictive gameplay loop, deep monster mechanics, and immersive world-building.
Still, at Game8, Monster Hunter Wilds earned a stellar 90/100, praised for its quality-of-life upgrades, stunning visuals, and a story that — despite flaws — adds emotional weight to the hunting experience. As one reviewer put it: “It’s not just a monster hunter game anymore. It’s a story about becoming a legend.”
