Monster Hunter Wilds Remains Among 2025's Top-Selling Games
Story, Immersion, and Crossplay Drive Monster Hunter Wilds’ Popularity

Monster Hunter Wilds Story is Credited for Its Success By Series Producer

By Game8 Staff | March 2025

Monster Hunter Wilds continues to dominate the global gaming landscape, cementing its place among the top-selling titles of 2025. Just three days after its highly anticipated launch, the game surpassed 8 million units sold, marking it as Capcom’s fastest-selling title to date. This remarkable commercial success has sparked widespread discussion—not only about the game’s polished mechanics and breathtaking visuals but also about the evolving narrative depth that, according to series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, lies at the heart of its appeal.

In a March 10 interview with The Nikkei, Tsujimoto emphasized that Monster Hunter Wilds’ story is more than just a backdrop—it’s a central pillar of the player experience. "We poured our hearts into crafting a narrative that feels personal, emotional, and connected to the world of the Wilds," he said. "This isn’t just another monster-hunting adventure. It’s a journey of discovery, survival, and humanity’s fragile bond with nature."

Tsujimoto highlighted several narrative innovations, including:

  • Deepened character arcs for both veteran and new hunters.
  • Voice acting in multiple languages, with performances tailored to each character’s culture and personality.
  • A richly layered lore system that unfolds through environmental storytelling, journals, and side quests.

But beyond storytelling, the producer credited crossplay functionality as a key driver of the game’s widespread appeal. "Players from PlayStation, Xbox, and PC are now hunting together in real time," Tsujimoto said. "This unity across platforms is not just technical—it’s emotional. It’s about bringing people together, no matter where they are."

This sentiment was echoed in a February 2025 interview with GamesRadar+, where Tsujimoto stressed the importance of PC gaming’s growing presence in Japan and beyond. "We dedicated significant effort to make it happen this time," he said. "This gives you the freedom to choose your preferred platform, then go online and hunt with friends—no matter what device they’re on."

The upcoming limited-time event, Echoes of the Forgotten Sky, set to launch on April 10, 2025, will expand on these themes. Players will explore a newly discovered skybound region where ancient rituals, forgotten legends, and a mysterious new monster known as Vael’Korath emerge. The event will feature:

  • A story-driven questline that challenges players’ understanding of the Wilds’ origins.
  • Exclusive gear and mounts, including the legendary Skywing Stalker.
  • Crossplay-exclusive co-op missions, where teams of up to four hunters from different platforms must solve environmental puzzles and survive synchronized monster attacks.

While the narrative has drawn praise from critics and many fans, not all feedback has been unanimous. Some players on Steam have voiced concerns about lengthy Seikrit rides, repetitive dialogue, and pacing issues in the early chapters. However, many of these critiques are balanced by the acknowledgment that Monster Hunter Wilds still delivers on its core promise: addictive, high-stakes gameplay.

At Game8, we awarded Monster Hunter Wilds a 90/100, praising its:

  • Addictive combat mechanics and refined monster AI.
  • Stunning visual fidelity, from bioluminescent forests to volcanic storm zones.
  • Surprisingly emotional story that deepens over time.
  • Quality-of-life improvements, like auto-aim adjustments, faster gear crafting, and intuitive UI.

"Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t just a game—it’s an evolution. The story might not be for everyone, but when it clicks, it clicks hard."
