In recent years, discussions about a potential sequel to The Last of Us have buzzed across online communities. Despite the polarizing reception to The Last of Us Part II, fans eagerly anticipated that Naughty Dog might refine the series with The Last of Us Part III or expand the universe through a spin-off. However, Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog, delivered a statement that caught even the most dedicated fans off guard.

During a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, where they delved into the adaptation of Naughty Dog's iconic series and the games themselves, Druckmann opened up about his experiences post-launch of the sequel amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. He admitted to feeling unwell and overly fixated on certain aspects, with his condition worsening when left alone with his thoughts—especially with internet access. This period became particularly challenging as Druckmann found himself immersed in reviews and online debates about his game, leading him to question whether he had indeed created something flawed, perhaps even ruining the beloved franchise.

When the topic shifted to the possibility of a third installment, Druckmann, with a sigh, acknowledged the anticipation around this question. However, he cautioned fans not to hold their breath for a new The Last of Us game, hinting that this might mark the end of the series.
