A thrilling new trailer for the upcoming TV series Alien: Earth has surfaced online, giving fans an enticing glimpse into the highly anticipated show. The trailer, initially unveiled at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, was shared on the @CineGeekNews X/Twitter account. It showcases the harrowing journey of a space ship's desperate survivors, who are on a collision course with Earth after a devastating Xenomorph attack.
The trailer provides a striking look at the new Xenomorph design and emphasizes the series' aesthetic, which closely mirrors Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 horror film, Alien. A pivotal scene takes place inside a MU/TH/UR control room that bears a striking resemblance to the one aboard the Nostromo, where Ripley uncovered the chilling reality of the crew's predicament.
In the trailer, a frantic crew member is seen pleading for help while banging on a sealed door as the Xenomorph closes in. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears indifferent to her distress, reporting that the "specimens are loose" and declaring the crew dead. He sets the ship's impact point as Earth. The trailer then cuts to a squad of six soldiers advancing toward the presumed crash site, hinting at the ominous fate that awaits them.
This glimpse into Alien: Earth raises numerous questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives him? Did any other crew members make it through? Was anyone left carrying a Xenomorph embryo? And, most intriguingly, how will the soldiers meet their end?
The series sets up its premise with a mysterious space vessel crashing on Earth, leading a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to make a "fateful discovery" that pits them against Earth's greatest threat.
FX's Alien series is set in 2120, positioned chronologically after Prometheus and just two years before the events of Alien and the Nostromo's tragic fate. This placement within the Alien timeline has sparked fan theories that Alien: Earth could explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or shed light on how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani Corporation learned of the Xenomorphs. For context, the recent interquel Alien: Romulus is set between Alien and Aliens.
In January of the previous year, showrunner Noah Hawley shed light on his decision to diverge from the backstory established in Prometheus for Alien: Earth. Hawley, a fan of the "retro-futurism" seen in the original films, discussed "many, many elements" of the Alien series with Ridley Scott, including its connections to the prequels. Ultimately, Hawley opted to distance himself from the bioweapon narrative in favor of the original films' lore.
Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is currently in development, further expanding the Alien universe.
