Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

By SarahMay 12,2025

Even though the GeForce RTX 4090 is a generation behind the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, it remains one of the most formidable graphics cards available today. It outshines competitors like the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find without significant price markups.

With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, it's becoming increasingly challenging to obtain. Thankfully, Dell still offers two prebuilt gaming PC models that can be equipped with this powerful GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus begins at $2,849.99. These are among the best deals available for an RTX 4090-equipped system, especially since other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have ceased offering RTX 4090 prebuilt gaming PCs.

The Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is more than sufficient with its 20 cores and a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz. It's cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus gaming PC comes with similar specifications: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended, as it also upgrades the CPU cooling to a more robust "advanced air cooling" system rated for 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 stands as the pinnacle of the RTX 40 series GPUs. In comparison to the new Blackwell cards, only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, offers superior performance. The RTX 4090 effortlessly handles 4K gaming, achieving over 60fps with all settings maxed out, including ray tracing, particularly when DLSS is enabled. While it struggles with path tracing, a feature rarely used outside of benchmarks, the RTX 4090 excels in virtually all gaming scenarios, making the RTX 5090's additional power unnecessary for most users.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unparalleled. As the only card of its new generation currently available, it's pitted against older models, and it's clear that with its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI enhancements, the $1,599 price tag is justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell offers an Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080 is one of three new Blackwell graphics cards, which are scarce. According to our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review by Jackie, "For gamers with older graphics cards looking for a significant performance boost, the RTX 5080 is a solid choice, especially with Nvidia's AI enhancements like DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation."
