"Avowed: To Give or Not Give Keipo the Leviathan Heart?"

By ScarlettMay 03,2025

In the *Avowed* side quest "Heart of Valor," players face a pivotal decision regarding Keipo and the Leviathan Heart. The quest unfolds with Chiko discovering that their uncle, Keipo, plans to use the heart to end his life due to the Dreamscourge. As the story progresses, it's revealed that Keipo's tale about the Leviathan was partially a cover for his partner Umpara's death, adding layers of complexity to the choices players must make.

The crux of the quest lies in deciding whether to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart. This choice significantly impacts the rewards and the narrative outcome. However, with the right dialogue choices, it's possible to secure all available gear without compromising the hope of Thirdborn by exposing Keipo's secret.

It is recommended not to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart at the end of *Avowed's* "Heart of Valor" side quest. This decision allows you to obtain all possible loot while preserving the hope of Thirdborn. To achieve this, you must uncover and read Keipo's Weathered Journal, located by activating a button on the curved stone structure near the Leviathan Heart.

Below, we'll detail the base rewards for each decision path and the specific dialogue choices needed to secure all available gear.

Reward for Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

By fulfilling Keipo's dying wish and handing over the Leviathan Heart, you receive Umpara's Spear, a powerful Exceptional Quality +1/3 weapon with the following stats and abilities:

Physical Damage88
Stun84
Stamina Cost13
Critical Hit Chance6%
Ability #1Deadly Mechanism: Power Attacks launch a poison dart
Ability #2Strike the Heart: +25% Critical Hit Damage

Reward for Not Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

By refusing to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and making the correct dialogue choices with Chiko, you can obtain the Stormdancer armor set. Additionally, you can keep the Leviathan Heart as a Unique Trinket, which provides a +20% Attack Damage boost at the cost of slowly draining your health. The Stormdancer armor set includes the following pieces:

Stormdancer Armor PieceQualityDamage ReductionAdditional Damage ReductionMaximum StaminaMaximum EssenceAbility #1Ability #2

To secure these armor pieces, select the following dialogue options when Chiko says, "I’m sorry my uncle is sick…":

  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

Choosing the wrong option, especially the third one, will upset Chiko, causing them to leave and denying you the Stormdancer armor pieces.

How To Get All the Loot in Heart of Valor

To obtain all available gear at the end of *Avowed's* Heart of Valor side quest—the Leviathan Heart, Umpara’s Spear, and the entire Stormdancer armor set—without exposing Keipo's secret to Thirdborn, follow these dialogue choices in the exact order when speaking to both Keipo and Chiko after finding Keipo’s Weathered Journal:

Talking to Keipo

  • “We need to talk. Now.”
  • “Come clean. Chiko told me you want to end your life.”
  • “We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you had the Dreamscourge.”
  • “I’m sorry. I can’t give you the heart.”
  • “I respect your choice. But I can’t be a part of it.”
  • “Listen. I…I know what happened to Umpara.”
  • “And? Why didn’t you tell the truth?”
  • “That’s why you really trapped the ruins. So no one would find out.”
  • “No. The truth would do more harm than good.”

Note that discussing Umpara's fate first will prevent you from obtaining Umpara’s Spear when you refuse to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart. Only by addressing Umpara's fate last can you secure both.

Talking to Chiko

  • “Don’t worry. It’s right here with me.”
  • “He wanted to take his own life with it. Chiko stepped in to prevent that.”
  • “Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe.”
  • “[Lie] No, that was all.”
  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

If you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and receive Umpara’s Spear, you can still obtain the Stormdancer armor set from Chiko by revealing Keipo's Dreamscourge affliction and repeating the final two dialogue choices above. However, this will expose Keipo's secret about Umpara to Tira Nui Hajime and Thirdborn, diminishing the settlement's hope and causing you to miss out on the Leviathan Heart.

By following the exact order of dialogue choices outlined above, you can secure an all-powerful set of armor, a unique spear, the Leviathan Heart as a trinket, and maintain the best possible outcome for all characters involved in this bittersweet scenario.
