Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been phenomenal, with an astonishing number of modifications downloaded shortly after release.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th launch. This was quickly surpassed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting over 3 million installs and climbing! "Modding is pretty big," Vincke stated, underscoring the game's impressive modding community.
Patch 7's impact extends beyond the sheer volume of mods. The update includes new evil endings, improved split-screen functionality, and a crucial addition: Larian's official Mod Manager. This in-game tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management, enhancing the player experience.
The existing modding tools (available separately via Steam) utilize Larian's Osiris scripting language, empowering modders to craft custom narratives, implement scripts, and debug their creations. Mods can be directly published from the toolkit.
Looking ahead, Larian is actively developing cross-platform modding support, a significant undertaking given the complexities of console and PC compatibility. While PC support is the immediate priority, console modding will follow after thorough testing and certification processes. "We'll start with the PC version," Vincke clarified, "The console version will come a bit later."
Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivers a refined gaming experience with enhanced UI, new animations, expanded dialogue options, and numerous bug fixes and performance improvements. With future updates planned, the community eagerly awaits further news on cross-platform modding and other exciting developments.
