Launch Date Moved to September 12
In a surprising turn of events, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford announced via a now-deleted Twitter (X) video on April 29 that Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved up to September 12. Pitchford expressed optimism about the development progress, stating that "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which has allowed for this earlier release. Originally set for September 23, as revealed in PlayStation’s February State of Play, the game's official Twitter (X) account confirmed the new release date, moving it two weeks earlier.
The official post read, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
Gearbox Software is committed to delivering what they promise will be the greatest Borderlands game to date. With the release now set for September 12, fans can look forward to diving into the action on the new planet of Kairos sooner than anticipated.
Borderlands 4 is slated to launch on September 12, 2025, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay tuned to our updates for more information about this highly anticipated game!
