Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening's developer has exciting news for fans: the game will launch without a monthly subscription, offering a different approach compared to many other MMOs. Read on to discover more about the game's upcoming release and the various editions available for purchase.

Dune: Awakening Set to Launch on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening, developed by Funcom, is gearing up for a full release on May 20, skipping the early access phase. The game's latest Steam blog post from March 21 detailed its business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.

This multiplayer survival game, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic 1965 novel, will not follow the monthly subscription model seen in competitors like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Instead, Funcom promises to keep the game fresh with free updates, new content, features, and enhancements.

Funcom's commitment to long-term support is backed by their experience with other live service games. They've successfully maintained Anarchy Online for nearly 25 years and continue to update Conan Exiles with free content, DLCs, and expansions well beyond its initial release.
