GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges with Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

By CharlotteMay 24,2025

The GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members expressing to IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord is abuzz as its 370 members, soon to exceed 400, dive into the wealth of new information provided by the trailer.

"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."

The GTA 6 Mapping Discord project originated in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans speculate were referenced by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's aim is to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible. Until Trailer 2, the mapping efforts were based on those leaks and the information from December 2023's Trailer 1.

The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, has now become outdated. The deluge of details from Trailer 2 is enabling a more precise and comprehensive map.

Alongside confirming plot details and characters, and releasing 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar disclosed information and images of various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, which is GTA 6's interpretation of Florida.

The newly revealed locations include Vice City, GTA 6's take on Miami, the tropical archipelago of the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border.

The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, aiming to align images of fictional settings with their real-world inspirations. Once their work is complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, which fans eagerly anticipate as a comprehensive preview of what GTA 6 will offer upon its release in May 2026.

Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets before then, perhaps during the first gameplay reveal, the volunteers will continue their efforts. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map with the actual game to gauge its accuracy.

However, the GTA 6 mapping project faces the risk of being shut down by Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map in GTA 5 had to halt the project after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.

Last year, when asked about potential action from Take-Two, Garza admitted to having "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."

While we await further developments, you can explore all the details we've discovered so far about GTA 6 and delve into all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
