With the March 2025 update for *Fields of Mistria*, a brand-new resource has entered the game: Essence Stones. These versatile items are essential for powering several new mechanics, particularly the auto-petter and sprinkler systems. To keep your farm running smoothly and make the most of these features, you’ll want to stock up on Essence Stones in all sizes—tiny, small, medium, and large. Here’s everything you need to know about finding, crafting, and using them effectively.
Where to Find Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria
Essence Stones can be found inside chests scattered throughout the mines—a new addition introduced in the March 2025 update. While exploring for offering items to break the Fire Seal on Floor 60, I stumbled upon my first Essence Stone, but they can appear on any floor across the mine biomes. Be cautious though—mimic enemies look like regular chests but deal damage when interacted with.
The stones come in four sizes: tiny, small, medium, and large. Smaller variants are more common, but if you’re looking for larger deposits, it pays to explore deeper levels and open as many chests as possible. If mining isn’t yielding enough stones, there’s another option: crafting.
How to Craft Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria
To craft Essence Stones, you'll need to build the Stone Refinery, which is part of a new story quest added in the March 2025 update. This quest involves working with Adeline, Olric, and Errol to construct the refinery within the mines. Once completed, the Stone Refinery becomes a central hub for crafting not only Essence Stones but also Refined Stone, Obsidian, Diamond, and other useful materials.
Here's what you’ll need to build the refinery:
- Wood x200
- Stone x400
- Tesserae x5,000
Once built, you can start crafting Essence Stones using combinations of Stone and Essence. The required materials vary by size:
Tiny Essence Stone | Stone x5 Essence x5 |
Small Essence Stone | Stone x10 Essence x25 |
Medium Essence Stone | Stone x20 Essence x50 |
Large Essence Stone | Stone x40 Essence x100 |
Crafting allows you to produce stones at will, making it an efficient way to gather larger quantities without relying solely on random drops from chests.
How to Use Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria
The March 2025 update brought two major quality-of-life improvements to *Fields of Mistria*: the auto-petter and sprinkler mechanics. Both require Essence Stones to function, with larger stones providing longer-lasting charges.
The **Animal Sprite Statue** powers the auto-petter system. When placed in Large Barns or Coops, it automatically pets animals daily as long as an Essence Stone is inserted. You can obtain this statue by exploring a hidden cave near Errol’s house in the Narrows—use the Dragon’s Breath spell on the entrance. Once unlocked, you can also craft duplicates.
The **Water Sprite Statue** enables the sprinkler system, watering crops within a 2-tile radius each day. Place it freely around your farm and insert an Essence Stone to activate it. You can find this statue along with its crafting scroll on a small island east of the beach, just past the Lighthouse area. Swim over and use Dragon’s Breath to enter the hidden space.
As future updates roll out from NPC Studio, expect even more uses for Essence Stones. They're becoming a core component of gameplay, especially for automation and convenience features.
