How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest naturally unfolds as you progress through the quests given by the blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After you've successfully located the lost cart, return to Radovan. He'll then express his desire to craft a sword as a wedding gift, which triggers the Hermit questline. Before you can interact with the hermit, you'll need to gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Begin by visiting the tavern in Troskowitz and engaging with Innkeeper Betty, exploring all possible dialogue options. Then, converse with other villagers to collect more insights. In my playthrough, I found the alehouse maid and the general trader particularly helpful.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Next, seek out Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have seen an apparition. You can persuade her by either offering a small amount of Groschen or by passing a dialogue check.

Afterward, make your way to Apollonia to find Stanislav. Here, you'll need to either pass another dialogue check or provide some Groschen to gain the necessary information.

Gather Evidence

Armed with the information from Gerda and Stanislav, it's time to collect concrete evidence. Head to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen, along with documents and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free at cemeteries near settlements.

Examine the documents, then proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia, where you'll find a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse to gather your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Approach the hermit’s hut and initiate a conversation with him. Without the evidence, he won't be forthcoming, but now, equipped with all the clues, he'll be more willing to talk.

Choose these dialogue options:

  • "You’re suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit will then confess that he isn't Ambrose but Konrad. He'll task you with delivering a cross to a widow named Margaret before he'll relinquish the sword.

Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to meet Margaret and give her the cross, starting the Sinful Soul quest. You can complete this quest immediately by assisting her in digging a grave for Ambrose, though it's optional. You can return to Konrad at any time.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders. You'll have the choice to either assist them in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape.

Sneak to the hut and speak with Konrad. Inform him you've completed the task and inquire about the sword. At this juncture, decide whether to aid Konrad or eliminate him. I chose to kill Konrad, as confronting the Crusaders is tough, whereas fighting Konrad is more manageable, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' assistance.

After Konrad's defeat, converse with the Crusaders and propose to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Finally, travel north of the hermit’s hut to two intertwined oak trees, where you'll find the hermit’s sword embedded in the ground. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to complete the quest.

This guide outlines how to obtain the hermit's sword and finish the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and information on the game, including the best perks to prioritize and all romance options, visit The Escapist.
