Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared in a video titled 'A Bad Month' that he had been working on a Soma animated show for a year, only for the project to fall apart, leaving him "quite upset." Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction video game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015 and has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye's, who streamed it extensively upon its launch.

In the video, Jacksepticeye discussed a challenging period creatively, marked by various projects that were either canceled or did not progress as hoped. He revealed the Soma animated show project, expressing his deep passion for the game and its story, which he considers among the best in video gaming. He had been in discussions with the developers for a year and was ready to enter full production when the project abruptly collapsed due to an unnamed party's decision to take it in a "different direction." Jacksepticeye did not delve into specifics, as he was quite upset about the situation.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus much of his year on the project, which would have limited his content uploads but promised a significant creative output to share with his audience. The sudden change left him unsure of his priorities and next steps, describing the past month as tough and frustrating.

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more Amnesia titles: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to move away from horror games to focus on other emotional qualities in their games. Grip emphasized the goal of providing immersive experiences, whether as a World War 1 soldier in a bunker or a robot at the ocean's bottom, and exploring themes beyond just horror.
