Jason Momoa Teases Lobo’s Debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow: 'We Look Pretty Dead On'

Jason Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe, is set to make a thrilling transition into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," slated for release in June 2026. This movie marks the second installment in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman," which is scheduled to premiere this summer.

Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, hails from the planet Czarnia, a world he is the last survivor of, much like Superman with Krypton. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in "Omega Men #3" in 1983. Known for his superhuman strength and immortality, Lobo is a fan-favorite character, and Momoa has expressed his excitement about portraying him, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character due to their aesthetic similarities.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's appearance in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." He emphasized his passion for the role, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool." Momoa also hinted that while Lobo's presence in the film will be impactful, it will be brief, as he mentioned, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it was quite cryptic. Gunn announced via a post on Bluesky that filming had commenced for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," with Milly Alcock, known for her role in "House of the Dragon," taking on the role of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.

The movie is heavily based on the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, while Eve Ridley will play Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is set to hit theaters in June 2026, making it a highly anticipated sequel in the DCU lineup, which also includes the upcoming "Clayface" movie slated for September 2026.
