Warhorse Studios Confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Will Be DRM-Free
Contrary to circulating rumors, the highly anticipated medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch without any Digital Rights Management (DRM) software. This confirmation comes directly from Warhorse Studios PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, who addressed player concerns during a recent Twitch stream.
Stolz-Zwilling explicitly stated that KCD2 will not utilize Denuvo DRM or any other DRM system. He attributed the misinformation to miscommunication and urged players to cease inquiries regarding DRM integration. He emphasized that any unconfirmed information circulating online is inaccurate and that official announcements from Warhorse Studios should be the sole source of truth.
The absence of DRM is welcome news for many gamers, as DRM has often been associated with performance problems and negative player experiences. The controversial Denuvo anti-piracy technology, in particular, has faced significant backlash due to perceived performance impacts and general player dissatisfaction. While Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has attributed the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias, the controversy remains.
KCD2, set in medieval Bohemia, follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts the devastating destruction of his village. The game is slated for release in February 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players who contributed at least $200 to the KCD2 Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy of the game.
