Fans of Marvel Rivals, get ready for an exciting update! The game's developers at NetEase have unveiled a dynamic plan to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging by introducing new heroes on a monthly basis. This shift in strategy was announced by Marvel Rivals' Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Dev Vision Vol. 05 event on April 4. This move promises to significantly enhance the gaming experience starting from Season 3.
New Heroes Every Month
In an effort to maintain the game's vibrancy and excitement akin to its launch, NetEase has decided to release new heroes every month, diverging from their previous schedule of two heroes per season. Guangguang stated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month." This change aims to keep the game as thrilling as it has been since its December launch.
The developers are also considering the addition of new game modes to further enhance the player experience. This ambitious plan could lead to the introduction of up to 12 new heroes annually. Despite the challenges this poses, especially in terms of balancing, Guangguang emphasized in a March 14 interview with PC Gamer that the team will rely heavily on key metric data such as pick rates, win rates, and ability stats to ensure a balanced gameplay experience.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
The Dev Vision also provided a glimpse into Season 2, titled Hellfire Gala, where players will join Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform things into diamonds, on the Mutant haven of Living Island Krakoa. The season's trailer showcased new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal wear, reflecting the opulence of the Hellfire Club, Marvel’s elite social club.
Following Emma Frost’s debut, Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, a renowned Marvel villain. The Hellfire Gala trailer hints at a dramatic turn when Ultron robots crash the party, signaling the beginning of the Age of Ultron. Further details about Ultron's role in the game are yet to be disclosed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals announced on Twitter (X) on April 4 that new skins for Thor and Hawkeye are now available. Thor’s Lord of Asgard skin draws inspiration from his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye’s Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai. The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle comes with the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
